Iowa State Research Day 2018
Discover. Create. Together.
Tuesday, March 27th, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Memorial Union
Iowa State Research Day is an opportunity for researchers and scholars of all disciplines to come together. This event is about celebrating your work and discovering your campus peers’ interests. This year’s theme is “Discover. Create. Together.”
During this event researchers and scholars are encouraged to give lighting talks about their research focal areas, present a poster or creative expression to exhibit their research interests, network with other researchers, discover campus research services at the resource fair, and listen to stories of real-life research and scholarship experiences. Whether you are a chemist, artist, performer, engineer, or historian, if you are involved with research or scholarly work at Iowa State, this event is for you. We encourage attendance and participation by faculty, staff, post docs, and graduate students.
Last year’s inaugural event saw over 300 attendees, more than 20 lightning talks, and nearly 80 posters and exhibits. You’ll find those same events in this year’s agenda, plus we’ve added some exciting, new activities.
New This Year:
Keynote speaker Gregory Petsko will discuss how science and the arts/humanities are a marriage made in heaven.
Check out posters and creative expressions by campus peers. This isn’t just an ordinary poster session – we are also encouraging researchers to talk broadly about their research interests and what skills they have to share with potential collaborators. (Register by March 20th if you would like to present a poster). Poster templates available via ISU Printing Services.
Four-minute lightning talks will be recorded for individuals to keep for their professional use. (Register by March 9th if you would like to give a lightning talk).
During the “Story Collider” session researchers will weave narratives about their personal experiences in research and scholarship. This session is modeled after the popular podcast series, Story Collider, true, personal stories about science.
The resource fair will assemble campus services for researchers including information about trademarks, patents, industry relations, and more.
A regular shuttle service will run throughout the day to and from the Vet-Med campus.
