Sponsored funding includes contract, grant, and gift awards that are received for research projects, public service/extension projects, education activities, student financial aid, building funds, and equipment.
Awards are recorded in the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration database when the funding is received. Usually in a multiple-year grant, the agency provides funding one year at a time. However, there are many cases in which funding agencies provide multiple years of funding all at one time. Federal funding in the database includes competitive grants, formula funds, and directed funds. Support for the U. S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory, which is contract operated by Iowa State, is included.
