Departments are asked to notify the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (VPR/ED) immediately if a faculty member that should be retained receives or is likely to soon receive an external offer. Depending on the budget situation, the VPR/ED office may contribute funds to help retain individuals with strong records of extramurally-funded research.

Funds requested from the VPR/ED in general should not exceed 30% of the total retention package from all ISU sources, up to a maximum of $200,000 from the VPR/ED. The VPR/ED office cannot fund faculty salaries. All commitments from other ISU sources must be secured prior to submission of the form to the VPR/ED office.

Requests should be submitted by the department chair using the form above and must include: a proposed plan for the complete retention package, a justification that includes the proposed usage of the funds by year and source, and a CV of the faculty member to be retained, including a record of the individual’s extramural funding. Indicate all commitments from other ISU units.
