Microbiome & Antimicrobial Resistance Symposium - ISU Office of the Vice President for Research

Microbiome & Antimicrobial Resistance Symposium

Genie in a Bottle: The Microbiome in Health and Disease

October 20, 2016

The Alumni Center

Ames, Iowa

The microbiome is a hidden ecosystem that habitats nearly every organism and dynamically affects the behavior of life as we know it, whether it be human, animal or plant.

Mapping the diversity of microbes  and understanding their properties has emerged as one of the grand challenges of the 21st century with profound implications for meeting the needs of a growing world population via the fields of agriculture, food and nutrition, health, energy and environment. Concomitantly, the emergence of antibiotic resistant infections has unleashed national and international programs for holistic studies on the microbiome and antibiotic resistant bacteria.

At this symposium we will gather prominent microbiome and AMR experts spanning human, animal and plant sciences who will engage in and deliberate on the current state of the field.
